Acupuncture for Plantar Fasciitis

Acupuncture for Plantar Fasciitis in Houston: Natural Healing for Foot Pain at Our studio

Have you been experiencing intense pain at the bottom of your heel that sometimes shoots up your leg and causes discomfort in your calf and ankle? If so, you could be suffering from plantar fasciitis, or plantar heel pain (PHP), a condition that affects people who are highly physically active, such as athletes and dancers.

Research shows that plantar fasciitis accounts for almost 11 to 15% of all foot complaints that require professional treatment in adults. While pain medications and orthotics may offer temporary relief, full restoration of health and function requires a more integrated approach to prevent future recurrence of the condition.

At templ™ we not only help patients recover from plantar heel pain, but also address the underlying factors that drive the condition by administering personalized and effective acupuncture points specifically for plantar fasciitis treatments that cater to the patient’s unique condition.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF PLANTAR FASCIITIS?

Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which the plantar fascia- a thick ligament tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot – becomes inflamed, usually when too much pressure is placed on it. Pain from plantar fasciitis develops slowly over time and is characterized by a burning sensation beneath the foot that extends from the heel. A key trait of the condition is a pain in the morning when getting out of bed.

Plantar fasciitis develops when plantar tissue is overused or overstretched. Small tears formed in the ligament can also be a source of pain. Some people are more likely to develop plantar fasciitis because of their foot structure.

Those who are most predisposed to getting plantar heel pain include active men and women aged between 40 and 70, as well as pregnant or obese women. Plantar is generally more prevalent in women than men.

At templ™, we have specialists for plantar fasciitis who use acupuncture to treat the condition and provide pain relief.

Plantar fasciitis Treatment

Plantar fasciitis can be stubborn to manage and often requires alternative treatment methods like acupuncture to prevent a recurrence. Acupuncture is a non-invasive procedure that treats the muscles by releasing trigger points and adhesions. It also improves blood circulation and decreases inflammation.

Although studies on the benefits of acupuncture and the reasons behind its effectiveness are still ongoing, there is evidence showing that it is beneficial for treating plantar heel pain. A review of medical research revealed that people with the condition reported significant pain improvements compared to patients who underwent more conventional treatments like stretching, orthotics, and strengthening. In the same study, acupuncture was also shown to confer more pain benefits compared to sham, or placebo treatments that simulated acupuncture.
